Obituary for John F. Wolfe

John F.  Wolfe
Dr. John Fennell Wolfe, Jr., of Gordonsville, VA and Ormond Beach, FL, died on December 5th, 2016 at the age of 84. Born January 22nd, 1932 in Washington, D.C., he was the only son of John Fennell Wolfe, Sr. and Amie Johnson Wolfe.

John was a graduate of VMI ('54) with a BS in Civil Engineering. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant. He attended the University of Richmond for one year for his premedical education, and then received his D.D.S. from the Medical College of Virginia ('63). He practiced dentistry in Charlottesville for six years before returning to MCV to specialize in orthodontics. He practiced orthodontics for 27 years, retiring from his practice in 1998. Upon his retirement, John and his wife, Joan traveled extensively and retired in Ormond Beach, FL. Nothing was unreachable for John as he was a born achiever. He enjoyed sports, was an avid golfer, skier, bocce ball, tennis, paddle tennis player and card shark. He played piano and even the bagpipes. John loved a good party, and he was always larger than life.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan Hatchette Wolfe, his three children Charlotte Henderson and her husband, Michael, Amie Williamson and her husband, Hank, and John Charles (JC) Wolfe and his wife, Melissa, as well as his seven grandchildren, John Thomas (JT) Sprouse, Rachel, Frances, and Martha Henderson, and Charlie, Katherine, and Olivia Wolfe.

A special thank you to all his friends, doctors and caregivers.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 9th at 1:00 pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, 733 West Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach, with guests received from 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the VMI Alumni Association in his name (Class of '54).
