Obituary for Margaret Anne "Peggy" Picard

Margret “Peggy” Picard passed away quietly and peacefully on November 2, 2017. She
passed in the manner in which she lived her life, thinking of family and friends, in the comfort
of her home, with the love of her life for over 62 years, Richard “Dick” Picard, by her side.
Born on Nov 27, 1934 in Burlington, VT to John Faye Smith Jr and Augustine “Rita” Yandow
Smith, Peggy attended Cathedral High School. In 1953, Dick and Peggy were crowned prom King
and Queen, they married on August 20, 1955 at St. Stephens Church. Shortly after they married
they moved to South Burlington where they raised their family and resided until 2014.
Peggy was City Clerk and Treasurer of South Burlington in excess of 25 years. She was on the
Board of Directors for the Unemployment Trust Board for the Vermont League of Cities and
Towns before retiring in 2003. Until her death, Peggy remained as a member of the South
Burlington Board of Civil Authority.
Peggy, also known as Mom or Mim to her family, leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love.
Her life was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended
family. She had a quick wit and a smile for all she met. A simple woman she never wanted
more than she needed and instilled a strong sense of right and wrong to all her family. Her
“Peggyism’s” such as “I chased him until he caught me”, “Shop, Shop, Shop!” and “Chat, Chat,
Chat!” will be handed down and recited by her family for the decades that follow. Peggy passed
her passion for travel and reading to her children and grandchildren, she loved spending the
summers at her cottage on the on the lake in St Albans Bay but at summers end she looked
forward to her winter home in Port Orange where she and her Dick reside.
Peggy is survived by her husband Dick, children Scott (Katherine) Picard of Winooski, VT,
Gregory (Kathryn) Picard of Chambersburg, PA and Lisa (Jeff) Abee of Carrollton, TX. Peggy is
also survived by grandchildren, Melissa, J Matthew and Denise Picard, Heather (Jacob) Meyers,
Joshua, Jacob, Isaiah, Abigail and Josiah Picard, Lauren and Kaitlyn Abee. Great grandchildren,
Asher, Zev, Itai and Ziva.
Peggy is also survived by her sister-in-law Patricia Jantomaso, brothers-in-law Peter (Jeannette)
Picard, Donald (Barbara) Picard and Michael (Lorrie) Picard and many cousins, nieces and
nephews. Special friends Dan and Gloria King and her beloved god daughter Christina Antoniak.
She will join her beloved parents John and Rita at God’s door and we know that she will bring a
smile to all the angels along the way.
