Obituary for Terrell C "Terry" Davidson

Terrell C "Terry" Davidson
TERRELL CARLTON DAVIDSON, SR. (TERRY)

Terry Davidson, 78, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend passed away August 12, 2017 after a brief illness. Terry was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but was raised in Gainesville, FL. He attended P. K. Young High School and graduated from the University of Florida, where he played freshman basketball, was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and graduated with a BSBA degree. He then served seven years in the Army Reserves.

During his college years, he took a break and moved to New York City and worked for a book publishing company. He later lived in Los Angeles, working for Avis Rent-A-Car delivering cars to movie stars and celebrities. His stories of that time in his life were priceless, including delivering a car to Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher and later playing Black Jack in Las Vegas with Dean Martin.

He married his longtime sweetheart, Sherry Peck and they celebrated 54 years together, raising four children Terrell C. Davidson, Jr., Ashley Davidson Tefft (Clipper), Blake Davidson (Leslie), and Taylor Davidson (Katie). They were also blessed with eight grandchildren, Skylar Davidson, Brady Davidson, Cameron Tefft, Landon Tefft, Lauren Davidson, Grayson Tefft, Chase Davidson and Ella Davidson.

After marriage Terry worked as a department manager for Maas Brothers Department Store in Clearwater, FL. In 1965, they returned to Gainesville and owned a gift shop named The Party Line. The shop won a national award, which was presented in New York at the Plaza Hotel. During the following years they also had a manufacturing company, making scenic sand art terrariums in glass, decorative candles, bulletin boards, posters and greeting cards.

In 1979, the Davidsons moved to Daytona Beach Shores and joined Peck Realty & Condominium Development, Inc. Terry worked on many condominium projects including Cherokee Trails, The Van Lee, White Surf, Twenty Six Twenty Six, Sandpoint, Blue Surf, Ocean Terrace Club Lighthouse Shores, Shores Club, Seychelles, The Caribbean, The Ormondy and The Ashley as a project coordinator. He later became a partner in several developments including, The Sherwin, Peninsula, The Atlantica, Oceanquest, and the Ormond Heritage. In 1999, the Davidson’s purchased Peck Realty of Daytona Beach, Inc.

He loved the Gators, traveling, going on cruises and to casinos, but most of all he loved his family. He was a mentor to many; kind, compassionate, fair minded and fun loving. He was a born leader and served on many Boards, including 27 years as President of The Ashley Condominium Board.

Terry was predeceased by his parents Eve Carlton and Robert Franklin Davidson, three brothers Robert, Thomas Chalmers and William. Aside from his immediate family, he is also survived by Edwin W. Peck, Sr., his father in law and Edwin Peck, Jr., his brother-in-law.
